A lovely eulogy for your uncle. He sounds like a fiercely determined and compassionately beautiful man. I am so sorry for your loss.

What a cool guy. And did he ever get to climb mountains? My husband, a compassionate climber and mountain biker (and trail builder) roped me up to jis side 3 times in 1 month in 2009 to drag my ass to the summit of Mt. Rainier. It was (now being honest, broke my body) the most remarkable experiences I had with him, in our own back yard after adventures together in 28 countries in 40 years so far. During the last summit it was finally a clear night and at midnight heading out of Camp Ingraham the headlamps crisscrossing the snowy mountain top looked like fireflies heading up to the bright stars. It was the most heart stopping experience ever, even compared to the rats crawling across my sleeping bag in Nepal heading to base camp. Your Uncle had it right. He captured your heart and shared a special drive we humans need to keep on keeping on. Abuse in the world overwhelms us because we care. Just be kind to yourself as you do for others and a better day will arrive. They always do and are worth it, as you are. Try navigating an entire week with one hand behind your back with a desire to hang on to your ice axe as though your life depended upon it and you will have a better perspective of what you have not lost. It's just a new view. Stay cool.

What a lovely memorial to your late uncle Yashar. Not only did he leave behind an "incredible wife and two amazing sons" but he also left a remarkable and gifted nephew - You. Your tweets always move me as did the writing about your beloved uncle Samad. He lives on in your heart and soul. May your Memorial Day weekend be one of great reflections here and abroad. Also, know how much comfort your words bring to many others. Take care, be well and stay safe.😷 Grace516G

I'm so sorry, Yashar. We can't be lulled into thinking that Covid is behind us. Our 42 year old son died 8 days ago after two weeks in the hospital, the last six days on the ventilator. He was a two time Iraq War vet, and his lungs were trash because of the exploded IEDs and burn pits he lived with every day. It's such a cruel disease. My prayers go out to you and your beautiful family. Thank you for sharing such a special tribute to your uncle. He will live on through all of you.
